From ionic liquids to liquid electrolytes

Versatile solutions for batteries and supercapacitors

The electrochemical stability and conductivity properties of ionic liquids make them suitable for the development of electrolytes for use in batteries and supercapacitors. Their non-volatile, non-flammable properties ensure that they meet today’s safety constraints a opposed to organic solvents.

These electrolytes are liquid over a wide temperature range, and they combine the safety advantages of solid electrolytes with the performance advantages of liquid electrolytes, offering an optimum contact surface between the electrodes and the electrolyte. The enhanced energy density and safety resulting from this technology opens up new horizons.

Our electrolytes are entirely ionic. Formulated without any organic solvents, they retain their liquid state over the entire possible operating temperature range of a Li-ion battery. Their negligible vapor pressure means they remain inherently non-flammable (flash point > 200°C). The absence of organic solvents gives them an electrochemical stability unmatched by state-of-the-art liquid electrolytes, and ensures better preservation of components throughout their use.

Our electrolytes cover ranges of potential unattainable with state-of-the-art electrolytes made from carbonate solvents. An array of high-potential Li-ion batteries such as those using LNMO (cobalt-free) electrodes is now possible.

These characteristics translate into Li-ion batteries with a higher energy density and enhanced safety.
